Brexit, entrepreneurship and moving forward together

Over the past few days there have been countless conversations between businesses that are currently based in, are operating out of, or planning to launch in the United Kingdom about adjusting their strategies and moving forward following the results of the EU referendum.

Now, it should be said that this is not a post about the referendum results- it’s pros, it’s cons or even if/when/how it will be ratified. Instead we focus on what’s running through the minds of decision-makers at growing businesses across the United Kingdom.

Some are looking to move out.

Some decision-makers have begun their search for alternative bases for their global or European headquarters. Interest in hubs such as Dublin, Amsterdam and Berlin has surged since the announcement of the EU referendum results.

The reasons associated with ‘moving out’ are widely quoted as: potential shrinking of talent pools, devaluing of the local currency and unpredictability surrounding free access to the single EU market- all of which could drastically increase market uncertainty for growing businesses in the coming months and years.

Some are postponing their launch in UK.

The United Kingdom has always been seen as a vital piece to the global expansion plans for growing businesses, with a relatively fluid access to capital and a large local market of consumers who use a single language.

Since the EU referendum results, however, some decision makers are reluctant to set up in the UK as quickly as they had planned, favouring to first take advantage of ‘easier’ access to the European single market offered by other hubs.

Others will drive on regardless.

It’s not all doom and gloom though, with many entrepreneurs digging in and adjusting their strategies to drive on with creating value and jobs across the United Kingdom.

In the midst of what will certainly be a trying period of unprecedented uncertainty for growing businesses, we will continue building a global and connected network of business communities around the world, working together to unlock new opportunities and a shared buying-power for decision-makers within included collectives.

At included.co our mission has always been, and will continue to be, to support entrepreneurship and growing businesses around the world, regardless of their response to the on-going geopolitical changes around them.
