Hulu released a 2.5min trailer for their upcoming WeWork documentary… which well… just needs to be seen.
Whilst most of the story is known (or so we believe), this documentary could cause ripples in the confidence in, or the reputation of, the coworking sector.

The topic of Management Agreements has come up in almost every TWIC discussion for a few weeks now, and was also featured twice in last week’s summaries.
🇩🇪 German coworking spaces mapped and counted.
Tobias Kremkau shares how the German ‘CoworkingMap‘ project have published some of the first publicly available numbers around just how many coworking spaces there are in the country.
According to these numbers there are now just over 700 coworking spaces, and the list excludes business centers, serviced offices and shared offices – counting only those with present community management.
🏃♀️ Commercial real estate is just catching up to modern biz needs.
Against the backdrop of challenges facing some of the largest coworking brands/chains, Joe Brady (The Instant Group) shares insights into what they see as ‘coworking v2.0’, a sturdier version of the concept designed for a post-COVID world.
In summary they expect to see increased comfort with turnkey HQs and a demand for suburban satellites hubs. Given that Instant works with corporates, it’s an insightful read into what those kinds of tenants are looking for.

Katharine Chestnut shares three ways that coworking spaces can become part of small businesses’ sustainability and eco-conscious strategies.
From saved resources (and reduced waste) to less commuting and lower costs – this is a great example of reminding small businesses that there’s more than one benefit of coworking.

codi shared a use-case on how a customer used their network of daytime workspaces within private homes to safely engage their 115 NYC remote employees, without long-term leases.
📚 Journal on how org of work has changed, added into Library.
Ina Krause’s 8 page journal analyzing how the organization of work has changed, has been added to the Coworking Library database.
💰 Investment needed to make hub-and-spoke model actually work.
Paul Bubny makes the case that the only way for suburban hubs to work for larger corporations, is if they can invest into expansion, with most of these ‘secondary’ locations often unable to offer 30 desks. Let alone 60+ corporations may need.
🧾 Another CRE SPAC announced.
Cushman & Wakefield announced that they too were creating a ‘blank-check’ company. This Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) is raising $250M to take a company public through a merger.
What differentiates this from previous CRE SPACs is that Cushman isn’t necessarily targeting property tech (proptech) companies.

WorkChew announced that they raised a round of funding to connect more remote workers with restaurants and hotels with underutilized space. The startup positions themselves as offering workers ‘something in between’ a coworking membership and free coffee shop.
🆕 Public property management SaaS introduces ‘flex platform’.
Essensys introduced their new Flex Services Platform via a press release, featuring comments from Industrious.

Pult launched a new Track feature bringing WFA check-in logging, one-click workspace bookings, who’s in checking, and more into Slack workrooms.
💰 New $100M proptech fund announced by Canadian VC firm.
Greensoil Proptech Ventures have announced their second fund focussing on investing into property technology (proptech) startups. An affiliate of Starlight Investments, who manage a $20bn commercial and multi-family real estate portfolio, are also backers of the new fund.
